The IPI Turkey National Committee is proud to launch The Journalist (Gazeteci), a new video series in collaboration with the Turkish online news platform Medyascope featuring conversations on the future of journalism in Turkey with leading media professionals.

The twice-monthly video series, hosted by National Committee member İpek Yezdani, will dive deep into the challenges facing modern journalism in Turkey, including “fake news”, disinformation, digital journalism, quality journalism, press freedom, the social rights of the journalists, journalism ethics, and media ownership.

The Journalist will be broadcast (in Turkish) live every second Monday at 16:00 CEST │ 17:00 (Turkey) by Medyascope. Episodes will feature different journalism experts from various fields to discuss key topics in Turkey’s media environment. Recordings of episodes will be available on both the Medyascope and IPI YouTube channels.

The Journalist premiered on March 28 with journalist Özlem Gürses, a former news anchor for Halk TV, who talked about the growing trend in Turkey of independent journalists increasing reporting via individual news channels on YouTube. In recent years, YouTube has served as an important bastion of media freedom in Turkey’s increasingly censored news environment.
