Case Background: 

Ender İmrek, a columnist for Evrensel newspaper, faces criminal charges for insulting President Erdoğan’s wife Emine Erdoğan in his article titled “The Hermes bag was shining brightly …” published on June 29, 2019.

During the first hearing on June 24, 2020, the court accepted First Lady Emine Erdoğan’s attendance in person in the next hearing, based on “the possibility of direct harm from the crime”. 

The next hearing is  postponed to October 8, 2020.
