Accusations: Membership of a terrorist organization; Founding a terrorist organization and directing it

On April 29, 2023, dozens of people were detained with coordinated raids in 15 provinces in Turkey, based on unclear terrorism charges. Dicle Fırat Journalists Association’s Co-chairperson and journalist Dicle Müftüoğlu and Mezopotamya Agency (MA) editor Sedat Yılmaz were detained in Diyarbakır and later arrested in Ankara for “membership in a terrorist organization” and “founding a terrorist organization and directing it”. It was also reported that Yılmaz was physically attacked by police while they were bringing him from Diyarbakır to Ankara. Yılmaz was later sent to Sincan High-Security Prison in Ankara.
