Case Background:

Deniz Kılıç, a former correspondent of now-closed Kurdish Azadiya Welat newspaper for city Batman, is being charged with “spreading terrorist propaganda” over his social media posts between 2014 and 2015.

Kılıç was previously detained in May under investigation and released on bail. The indictment cited seven posts he shared on social media consisted of photos taken at several press conferences and Kurdish Nawroz celebrations in 2014 and 2015. The prosecution requested a sentence of five years in prison in the indictment.

The first hearing will take place on November 28.
