On April 29, 2023, dozens of people were detained with coordinated raids in 15 provinces in Turkey, based on unclear terrorism charges. Dicle Fırat Journalists Association’s Co-chairperson and journalist Dicle Müftüoğlu and Mezopotamya Agency (MA) editor Sedat Yılmaz were detained in Diyarbakır and later arrested in Ankara for “membership in a terrorist organization” and “founding a terrorist organization and directing it”. Müftüoğlu was sent to Sincan Closed Women Prison in Ankara.
