Murat Güreş, a columnist for the local newspaper Ayıntap in Gaziantep, was detained on August 2, 2017 and imprisoned pending trial on a charge of “violating the confidentiality of an investigation”. The case reportedly stems from the publication of testimony of a local construction company owner who is under arrest in an investigation into what authorities call the “FETÖ/PDY terrorist group” network in Gaziantep. Authorities say publication of the testimony violated a confidentiality order in the case. Güreş was released on August 15.
