CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

Press Freedom and Communications Intern

Location: IPI Secretariat (Vienna)
Deadline for applications: Rolling basis

IPI welcomes applications from candidates interested in non-paid internships in our press freedom and communications department at our Vienna Secretariat.

Candidates should be highly motivated and have a keen interest in human rights, particularly press freedom. We are generally looking for undergraduate or graduate-level students, or recent graduates seeking work experience in an international human rights NGO environment.

Applicants must have a very strong command of English, both verbal and written. Candidates with additional knowledge of other languages – particularly Turkic, Slavic or Romance languages, or Arabic – are preferred. IPI is particularly interested in candidates with a strong command of social media and its use as a tool for communicating news and IPI’s work.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, monitoring issues and developments (both positive and negative) impacting press freedom around the world; drafting press freedom statements; researching press freedom topics and drafting reports; contributing to IPI’s projects, campaigns and publications; interacting with IPI and other media stakeholders; and increasing IPI’s exposure using social networking tools.

IPI internships are a demanding position and require a high degree of initiative and an ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment.

Interns must be available to work at least two days a week, for a term of two to three months, and must possess excellent interpersonal skills. IPI accepts internship applications on a rolling basis.

Applicants should contact Steven M. Ellis, IPI Director of Advocacy and Communications, steven(dot)ellis(at)freemedia(dot)at. Please send a resume/CV, date of availability and a cover letter explaining why you would be suitable for an internship with IPI. No calls, please.
